How To Maintain Ceramic Coating.

Timothy Eason • Jun 10, 2022

Now that we have protected your investment, it’s time to know how to maintain your ceramic coated vehicle, as it is very important to the durability and overall experience!

We want to keep that glass like appearance & excellent hydrophobic properties.

So I will help you with the simplest way to maintain your investment.

(We are not going to get into chemicals used to maintain but simply how to.)

We can get back to hand washing our vehicles! 🫢 that’s right. Remember enjoying washing your car on the weekends? Now it’s much easier than you think!

** Car wash tunnels are not recommended by us here at Sharper Image after Ceramic Coating applied. They will not only diminish the protection with the higher ph soaps over time but with the harsh brushes they use can mar & scratch the paint.

All you need is buckets, 🧽 sponge or wash mitts, premium drying towels or air blower, PH-neutral soap, & Ceramic maintenance Detail spray 😁 yep that’s it!

The Steps

  • For best results, wash with the PH-neutral soap on a weekly basis to avoid excessive contamination buildup. We also recommend using the Premium Wash mitts or sponges 🧽
  • Avoid washing in direct sunlight☀️ to minimize streaking and water spotting and only wash when the vehicles surface is cool to the touch.
  • Wash starting at the roof and eventually working downwards, leaving the dirtiest sections last to avoid possible cross contamination. If needed use more than one sponge or mitt when washing depending on how dirty your vehicle may or may not be.
  • Always dry vehicle with the recommended Premium drying towel or an air blower. Or we recommend using an electric or battery powered leaf blower (not gas operated) to prevent gas and oil fumes from falling onto the vehicles now clean surface.
  • Never use aggressive products to polish the coating or to remove surface contamination. If the surface of the vehicle loses its hydrophobic effects normally there is a reason. Contact us for support.
  • It is strongly suggested to use the 2 bucket washing method with grit guards. You can read more about how to use the 2 bucket washing method below.
  • 2 buckets are used during the wash process to help minimize the chance of wash scratches by “flushing out” the dirt picked-up by the previous wipe. Here are the steps:
  1. Bucket 🪣#1 is filled with PH-Neutral soap and water (use a grit guard in this bucket).
  2. Bucket 🪣 #2 is filled with only water
  3. The wash mitt from bucket #1 is used on the paint and collects dirt.
  4. The now dirty wash mitt (after every panel) is dunked in bucket #2 and shaken to release the trapped dirt from the mitt.
  5. The now clean wash mitt is dunked in bucket #1 again to reapply the soap.
  6. REPEAT this process for every panel.

🛡We highly recommend VEHICLE INSPECTION SCHEDULE:

To uphold the ceramic coating warranty, you must visit the certified installer who applied your original coating every 6 -12 months during the duration of warranty – unless you have had a change of address. If this is the case please email or contact us for proper direction.

⚡️⚡️We also offer VIP Ceramic Maintenance Plans if you don’t want it have the time to properly keep up with the maintenance and want it done right.
